These have have been tough but such meaningful years.
Minhee and I have been married nearly 15 years, have three incredible children, recently celebrated the 10 year anniversary of our church, pursued a dream to start a non-profit cafe and music venue, and recently celebrated Minhee’s graduation from grad school.
Today is also a very special day as we’re marking the 2nd anniversary of One Day’s Wages at our Annual Gala. It took us nearly 3 years to start ODW as that’s how long it took to save up the equivalent of our year’s wages. Numerous times, I kicked myself for going “public” with the vision here on my blog.
But here we are…
Since it’s launch, we’ve built a great following on Twitter and over 640,000 people on our Facebook Page. We’ve established some great partnerships with artists, musicians, small businesses, organizations, and with individuals. More specifically, we’ve had 7438 donors who have partnered with us to raise $860,928.13 for projects and partnerships. One of the unique things about ODW is that we donate 100% of donations (minus credit card fees) to empower people to lift themselves out of poverty.
Because of our “success” and the great press that we’ve received from numerous sources such as the New York Times (twice), NPR, Seattle Times, and Mashable, most don’t realize how small and grassroots ODW truly is. Did you know that:
- We have only one paid staff (operations) and one 10 hour/week contractor (accountant).
- I volunteer my time along with interns & other volunteer staff.
- Our global headquarters is a small 250 square feet office! Check out our video as we do a walk-through of our headquarters. (RSS readers, click here)
Because 100% of donations (minus cc fees) go directly to projects and partnerships around the world, we raise our “administration funds” separately. While we operate as an incredibly lean organization, we still need some love and support to sustain and grow our movement.
To celebrate our 2nd birthday, our hope is to find at least 1,000 people that are willing to invest at least $20 to support ODW’s work.
I invite you to consider being one of the 2000.
Visit the “ODW Turns 2” Birthday Page and make sure you check out the gifts we’d be sending you as a small way of saying,
Thanks for your prayers.
Thanks for your trust.
Thanks for your support.
Thanks for believing in us.
