steve jobs: reflections about birth, death, and the life in between

By now, you’ve heard the shocking news of Steve Jobs’ passing at the age of 56. Like many, I extend grace and prayers to the entire Jobs family.

Like some of my friends and readers, I do not personally have an “emotional” connection with Steve Jobs because I am not a Mac user for these reasons (although I occasionally use an iPad that was given to me as a gift). I’m sure many of you could write and write about your appreciation and admiration for Steve Jobs. And perhaps, how he changed the way you live your life.

But like others, I have much respect for him.

Needless to say, Steve Jobs was a brilliant man. For reasons that many of us already know, Steve Job rightfully deserves much praise for his legacy and oh, what a legacy! President Barack Obama conveyed it well in his recent statement: Read the rest of this entry »

finally switching to a macbook. kind of.

Well, this might be considered worthy of “breaking news.” As some of my readers may know, every now and then, I host the occasional blog about “which is a better computer” between the Apple vs. PC camps.

And after years and years of resisting the company called Apple, I finally took the plunge.

But, no…not for me.

But I did buy a  Macbook Pro for my wife, Minhee, to serve as one of those all-purpose gifts: Christmas, Happy Anniversary, Valentine’s Day, and an early Graduation gift.

We’ve been on a pinch budget over the past few years so it feels good to get a nice gift for my wife as a small token of gratitude for her amazing commitment to journey with me.

And to be honest, this is a gift to make up for a very bad habit or disease I have. It’s called… Read the rest of this entry »

i made a mistake. i should have switched to a mac.

macbook-pro-june09Several months ago, I pondered making a change from a PC to a Macbook (and asked for your advice) but resisted the peer pressure from the Apple cult and nearly everyone on my staff using a Mac but after seeing this video, I confess I may have made a mistake.  If there are any PC or Microsoft folks out there, can your computers/operating systems do this?

It’s in French and I don’t understand a lick of French asides from Bonjour but the video still kicks butt. Wait to see the full impact and you’ll know what I mean.

Can you say, “Bing?” :)

exclusive photos and review of the prototype iPhone 3G

I have a special treat for my blog readers.  I had a chance to play around with the prototype iPhone 3G today.  As you know, on June 9 at the WWDC, Apple and Steve Jobs released info, specs, and prices of the new iPhone 3G to be offically released to the rest of the “average public” on July 11.

But I have connections.  Here are some pics and commentary: Read the rest of this entry »

the apple cult

My parents purchased what I believe to be an Apple IIc many years ago when I was in elementary or junior high. I didn’t really have the brain capacity to enjoy it.  Played a few computer games on it.  Never used computers again – honestly -until I hit college and grad school.  It was during grad school that I  had a couple friends that were fantatics about Apple computers.  These Apple “evangelists” were trying to convert me – even then – to the Apple Cult… Read the rest of this entry »
