finally switching to a macbook. kind of.

Well, this might be considered worthy of “breaking news.” As some of my readers may know, every now and then, I host the occasional blog about “which is a better computer” between the Apple vs. PC camps.

And after years and years of resisting the company called Apple, I finally took the plunge.

But, no…not for me.

But I did buy a  Macbook Pro for my wife, Minhee, to serve as one of those all-purpose gifts: Christmas, Happy Anniversary, Valentine’s Day, and an early Graduation gift.

We’ve been on a pinch budget over the past few years so it feels good to get a nice gift for my wife as a small token of gratitude for her amazing commitment to journey with me.

And to be honest, this is a gift to make up for a very bad habit or disease I have. It’s called… Read the rest of this entry »

i made a mistake. i should have switched to a mac.

macbook-pro-june09Several months ago, I pondered making a change from a PC to a Macbook (and asked for your advice) but resisted the peer pressure from the Apple cult and nearly everyone on my staff using a Mac but after seeing this video, I confess I may have made a mistake.  If there are any PC or Microsoft folks out there, can your computers/operating systems do this?

It’s in French and I don’t understand a lick of French asides from Bonjour but the video still kicks butt. Wait to see the full impact and you’ll know what I mean.

Can you say, “Bing?” :)

the apple vs pc commercial wars

The debate between Apple vs PC will always rage on – particularly if you account for the higher costs of the Macbooks but how about them commercial wars!  They’ve certainly escalated with the “I’m a PC” commercials all over the place like the one below.  It’s nice but having Deepak Choprah killed it for me.

There’s numerous more out there.  They’re good, practical, some are cute, and they attempt to connect to “regular folks” like this “laptop hunter” commercials.  But is it just me or does Microsoft always seems to be a step or two behind Apple.

Computer hardware/software debate aside, what do you think?

Check out this new Apple commercial again making fun of the above PC commercials. It’s painfully hilarious because Read the rest of this entry »

pc vs mac: what laptop should i get?

Last year, I indicated that I was in the market for a new laptop and asked folks which way I should go:  PC or Mac?  The discussion was pretty spirited.  I also got some additional hate mail for my post entitled Why the Iphone Sucks which pretty much demonstrates my envy of iPhone users.  I never got a new laptop then but now I actually need to get a new or used laptop.  Our family is selling some stuff to help us get through some financial situations but thankfully, the church is supplying a laptop I can use.  Another big reason why I need to get a new laptop is the Dell m1210 [12.1 in screen] I was using [which I really like] was causing some painful traces of carpel tunnel  because of the cramped keyboard and that’s not good.

While I’d love to hear what your honest recommendations are. I’m not going to get a Mac simply because the budget I have from the church is $800 and well, we all know that Macs cost a pretty penny.

  • What laptop & model would you suggest for that budget?
  • What do you personally use?  I’m curious to see the numbers between PC vs Macs.  If you use a PC, what brand?
  • How many of you have made the move to a Netbook?

I have four reasons why I won’t get a Mac – even though I’m a fan of Steve Jobs: Read the rest of this entry »

the big question: mac or pc?

Alright.  I’m in the mood for some hate mail and “good dialogue” so here goes.  People take their computers, notebooks, and gadgets pretty seriously.

I have been contemplating getting a new laptop.  I don’t need one per se because I like my used Dell m1210 [via Craigslist], but it’s giving my hands, fingers, and wrists some serious pain because of the small size.  And so, I’m back to the BIG QUESTION:  Mac or PC? Read the rest of this entry »
