olympic weightlifting must [not] see accident

Asides from the drama of swimming, I’ve been surprisingly intrigued by weightlifting but watching this particular weightlifter’s unfortunate injury was painful to say the least.  I think it may be one of the worst sports injuries I’ve seen in my life.

Watch [YouTube video below] at your own discretion and if you do, make sure you don’t do so while eating.

What’s the worst injury you’ve seen?

Olympic Weightlifter Janos Baranyai pops his elbow

Hungarian weightlifter Janos Baranyai’s first Olympics ended in agony when he dislocated his right elbow in the ugliest moment yet of the Olympic competition.

Baranyai was trying to snatch 148kg in his third lift in the men’s 77kg division, when his elbow popped out of its socket and his right forearm bent backwards.

The 24-year-old Hungarian fell to the floor in shock, shaking and crying out in pain

  2. Gary says:

Reminded me of Joe Theismann’s leg injury on Monday Night Football.

  3. This video of assimilated still shots is much worse than the live-action video I saw last night. Last night, I knew he was in pain because it looked painful, but it wasn’t repulsive. This video, however, is quite nasty. Blech!

  4. I wonder how an athlete recovers from this one?

  5. Joe says:

oh my gosh! eugene you almost just made me gag… gross.

youtube had to remove all the videos of the injury because of NBC and copyright issues…which is the reason why the stills video is the only one folks can view. it is indeed more grosser.

I’m sure the actual video footage of it was a lot more shocking. I missed it! Dammit! This didn’t make me cringe or anything. Seeing someone in pain in watching it in motion as his arm pops out of his elbow socket, hearing it is much more gross. Screw the Olympics committee for removing it! To people who miss the games it doesn’t look like I’ll be caring to watch 2012 Olympics much. It would be better if they wanted people to see this accident. I feel sorry for this guy who got hurt. I only wanted to be informed and not watch a bunch of stills. It’s not like we had to pay money to view this on television! Geez!
