In 6th grade, I was considered tall. I was about 5 feet and 5 inches. I was also starting to flex some skills on the basktball courts. I had dreamy ambitions of being a basketball star…I was super quick, could jump out of the gym, and talk trash with the best of them.
The bad news about life after 6th grade – besides the zits and my super shy syndrome – was that I only grew about 1 or 2 more inches. I currently stand at 5 feet 6.5 inches and still go through my short person complex because honestly, I wish I was 6’5″ and playing in the NBA or playing shortstop or 3rd base for a Major League baseball team.
Now - post 30 extra pounds and ruptured Achilles – umm, it’s not a pretty sight on the basketball court.
Anyway, I gravitate towards other shorter folks…which is why I don’t care for Obama, Clinton, or McCain. I just vote for the shortest candidate which makes Kucinich my choice for President this year. He’s 5’5″ without shoes which makes him my choice.
So, with that in mind, let me introduce you to the shortest girl in the world.
A teenager from India who stands at a tiny 1ft 11in (58cm) tall is the smallest girl in the world.
Jyoti Amge, 14, is shorter than the average two-year-old child and only weighs 11lb (5kg).
She has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia and won’t grow any taller than her current height…
‘I’m just the same as other people. I eat like you, dream like you. I don’t feel any different.’

Eugene,
I’ve seen you play basketball and you are still as competitive – Not as good physically but you still talk trash pretty good.
You know – you don’t have to be 6’5 to play pro ball. Muggsy Bogues was only 5′ 3…
kim,
well asides from the height, i also learned i have an inaccurate perception of my skills. i didn’t even make it past the first two hours of college basketball tryouts – and that was Div II.
Wow. I had to really examine that first picture because I had no idea what that was about. All i saw was the five girls standing shoulder to shoulder . It took me about 10 seconds to realize the shorter girl. It’s a great story and she seems to have a solid perspective.
oh yeah, i had read a small article on her in the papers
